Data Collection Filler Related Necrosis
Dear Doctor,
Thank you for your interest in collaborating on research with Cutaneous.
Attached you will find the research protocol, along with instructions related to the study we are currently focusing on.
I kindly ask that you inform us within one week which database you plan to investigate, so that we can enter the appropriate information in the shared Google Drive.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Once you have send in valuable data, you are eligible to be included in the group of authors. This is however to the discretion of the project leader.
Best regards,

Primary Research Question:
Which skin lesions are observed in the days following a filler-related arterial obstruction?
Secondary Research Question:
Is type 5 necrosis also observed in the lateral part of the face?
Objective:
Collect as many relevant images and case details as possible related to vascular adverse events (VAEs) after filler treatments.
Step 1: Mandatory Review of Your Own Clinical Files
All participants are required to review their own clinical records or photo archives for cases of vascular complications following filler injections
Step 2: Choose One Additional Source to Investigate Exclusively
In addition to your own files, select one external database or platform from the list below:
– Scientific publications from 2000 to present
– PubMed
– Embase
– CMAC
– ISAC
– ERASMUS MC
– Google Scholar
– Facebook
– Instagram
– TikTok
Step 3: Confirm Your Source
Email Dr. Sara Khoshnaw to confirm which external platform you will research:
Step 4: Conduct Your Search
Use relevant search terms like: filler, vascular occlusion, embolism, skin necrosis, VAE, injection complication, etc.
Step 5: Document Each Identified Case
For each retrieved image, document the following:
– Search terms used, search methods, and time period of search
– Hyperlink to the VAE case
– Source: scientific article, database, or social media platform
– Location of lesion on the face or body
– Stage of skin lesion (Stages 1-5, refer to the provided PDF file)
– Time between filler injection and image
– Clinical features present at the image
– Clinical features over time
– Is type 5 necrosis present?
– Patient demographics: gender, age, comorbidity, medication
– Treatment data: type of filler, location of initial injection, volume injected (ml)
– Hematoma present?
– Which treatment has been applied
– Country where the VAE occurred
Step 6: Enter Data in the Shared Spreadsheet
Use the provided Google Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TPiORf9vQuyhDOJ-LMJFjW1imRvPyLtrHDY3OcDp2M4/edit?usp=sharing
Step 7: Collect and Save Images
For each identified case, download the corresponding image from the database.
Save each image in a folder on your computer.
Name the image file according to the Unique ID used in the spreadsheet
Step 8: Submit Your Work Within 4 Weeks
Send the folder with images via WeTransfer to: [email protected]
Inform Dr. Khoshnaw if you need more time or complete the task early.
Step 9: Quality Review & Completion
Your data will be reviewed and verified by the project team.
You will be notified once your contribution is approved and complete.
