About us

Cutaneous was founded by doctors in aesthetic medicine, dermatology and radiology. We realised that combining our knowledge and experience would lead to better diagnoses as wel as safer and more effective treatments of our patients.

Our combined knowledge and experience has lead to strong synergy that we want to share with colleagues worldwide. That is the reason we founded Cutaneous.

Vision

Cutaneous is founded in 2019 by Dr. Peter Velthuis and Dr. Leonie Schelke. Our vision is to enhance your professional development in cosmetic treatment by deploying ultrasound in your daily practice. We have launched a series facial anatomy i.c.w. ultrasound courses around the globe. Online and Hands-on. We call it the Safe & Sound Learning Experience.

Mission

We are committed to teach dermatologists, aesthetic physicians and plastic surgeons the use of ultrasound and facial anatomy. To empower you to raise the bar in quality and safety for ultrasound guided injections. It is our mission to prevent complications in aesthetic dermatology.

Nicola Lowrey PA-C
Senior trainer Cutaneous

Nicola earned her Master’s of Physician Assistant Practice degree in 2003 from USC’s Keck School of Medicine.  She is a board certified Physician Associate.

She began her medical career with a focus on Emergency Medicine.  It was in the ER that Nicola was first trained on POCUS (point-of-care ultrasound.)  It was a diagnostic tool that aided in procedures such as I&D’s, vascular access, and central line placement.

Since 2004 Nicola has also worked in Medical Aesthetics. She has always had a passion for facial anatomy and its importance for safety and superior outcomes with injectable procedures.  She has intensively studied facial anatomy and its application to aesthetic medicine for over 20 years.  Having both attended and instructed numerous Donor Facial Anatomy courses and contributing on multiple peer reviewed anatomical publications.

In 2021 Nicola continued her ultrasound education with Cutaneous Facial Ultrasound, under the direct guidance of Dr Leonie Schelke.

Nicola instantly had an intense passion for learning this new skill. She began implementing it into her daily practice immediately.  Not too long after, Nicola was honored to be able to assist Dr Schelke and Dr Peter Velthuis for courses both in the US and across Europe.

She has contributed to several ultrasound based research publications and currently teaches ultrasound courses focusing on anatomy, best injection practices, safety, and complication management.  She has had the honor of presenting on ultrasound for Allergan Medical Institute, N2 Aesthetics Training Center, Swift Beauty, Canadian Association of Medical Aesthetics, SCALE, and CMAC.
